Work underway to establish Addu International School

Work is underway to establish an international school in Addu atoll, Education Minister Mustafa Luthfy has said.

He made the statement to Miadhu Daily when asked about government plans to strengthen devlop primary and secondary education in Addu atoll.

Mustafa Luthy said the government’s plan is to provide adequate and quality education to all parts of the country and that to this end efforts are underway to set up an international school in Addu atoll so that students of the atoll and the region can access quality education at home.

“Work is underway to establish an international school in Addu , the main reason we are embarking on such a project is provide the opportunity to students of the atoll and the nearby region to access quality education from home; we have plans to establish international schools in Sothern and Northern province” Mustafa said.

Mustafa who took over as Education Minister when the government of President Mohamed Nasheed came in to power has revealed plans to develop and upgrade education system of the country. He has worked in the education sector for over 22 years.

While efforts are underway to establish international schools in Southern Province and Northern Province , international schools will open in Male’ and Hulhumale’ as the new academic year begins in 2009.
